Necker Island - Part 2
Returning to Necker Island: Growth, Gratitude, and the Power of Positivity
Returning from Necker Island, my heart feels incredibly full 💙
It’s been almost eight years - almost to the exact day - since I last flew there in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Back then, the island was in recovery. The energy was heavy, the challenges were real and the focus was on rebuilding not just structures, but people.
This time, what I saw was something truly special.
The island has changed. It has grown. It has flourished.
There’s something deeply moving about witnessing a place, and the people within it, rise from adversity with strength, resilience, and renewed spirit. Necker Island today stands as a testament to what’s possible when people come together with purpose, care and belief in something better.
So many moments touched me during this visit, but one in particular stayed with me and I felt compelled to share it.
Why?
Because we don’t celebrate each other enough.
Because positivity has one of the biggest impacts we often underestimate.
Because meaningful human connections truly matter.
And because my work in the British Virgin Islands all those years ago changed my life and this moment brought that full circle.
During my time there following Hurricane Irma, I had the privilege of supporting individuals and teams through an incredibly emotional and uncertain period. It was about helping people find calm in chaos, manage stress, and rebuild not just physically, but mentally and emotionally.
To hear how that work has lived on is something I’ll never take for granted.
Here are the words shared with me:
“Dr Vikki did incredible work with us on Necker following Hurricane Irma, supporting the team through what was an extremely challenging and emotional time. Her approach - helping people manage stress, find calm in chaos, and rebuild with strength - had a lasting impact across the island, both individually and as a team.
She stayed connected with us and has continued her work globally, building on everything she does around wellbeing, resilience and free happiness. She was one of our key consultants back in 2018 and her sessions are genuinely impactful. Vikki has become a very close friend.”
Reading this filled me with so much gratitude 💛
It’s easy to underestimate the ripple effect of what we do. The conversations we have, the support we give, the kindness we offer - it all matters more than we think.
Happiness, at its core, often comes from helping others feel happy. There’s a deep sense of purpose in that. In fact, I’d argue there’s no bigger purpose at all.
So here’s something simple to take away:
Act as though what you do makes a difference, because it does.
And if you only do one thing today, let it be this: help someone feel happier.
It works 🌟
